The body knows how to heal — sometimes it just needs a witness.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, specialized massage that supports your body's natural drainage system — reducing swelling, easing inflammation, and helping you recover faster. Available at Watershed Wellness Cooperative in Madison, TN.
Who benefits from MLD?
After surgery
Recovering from a cosmetic or medical procedure? MLD reduces post-surgical swelling, supports tissue healing, and helps you feel like yourself again.
Wellness & immune support
Monthly maintenance, stress reduction, better sleep, and immune resilience. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit — many clients come simply because it makes them feel lighter and clearer.
Lymphedema or Lipedema
Ongoing fluid backup, limb heaviness, or swelling that won't resolve on its own.
Breast health & oncology support
Post-mastectomy recovery, radiation-related swelling, or ongoing breast tissue care. Collins is trained to work safely and gently with clients navigating cancer treatment and recovery.
Chronic inflammation & immune conditions
Digestive issues like IBS, skin conditions like eczema or rashes, recurring sinus congestion, joint swelling, or persistent fatigue — when your body is stuck in an inflammatory loop, MLD helps reset the drainage pathways that clear it.
Prenatal & postnatal care
Pregnancy-related swelling in the legs, feet, and hands, or postpartum fluid retention. MLD is gentle enough for all stages and supports your body's natural shift after birth.

Post- Operative *Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Post-Op & Breast MLD — for surgical recovery and breast tissue care
Targeted lymphatic drainage reduces post-surgical swelling, supports scar tissue formation, and accelerates the body's natural healing response. Recommended within 1–2 weeks of surgery with provider clearance

What to expect at your post-surgical MLD session.
Every session is private, unhurried, and tailored to where you are in your recovery. Here's what the experience looks like from start to finish.
① Before
-
Drink 16–32oz of water in the hours leading up to your session — hydration is essential for lymphatic movement.
-
Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to surgical sites without constriction. Avoid applying lotions, oils to the treatment area immediately before your appointment.
-
When you arrive, Collins will take time to review your surgical history, timeline, surgeon's clearance, and any current symptoms — swelling, tenderness, bruising, or areas of firmness.
Nothing is too much detail.
Surgeon clearance is required for post-operative sessions.
Email collins@watershedcoop.org with any questions about timing before booking.
② During
Gentle work. Profound recovery.
You are welcome to undress to your comfort level. Even if we are working with breast tissue, you will remain professionally draped throughout — warm, covered, and with only the area being worked on ever being exposed. Your comfort, dignity, and sense of safety are not negotiable.
Much of this work is about more than lymphatic fluid. Surgery can be a harsh experience for the body — and real recovery means returning the body to a felt sense of safety and belonging. Collins holds that intention in every session.
The work itself is light but not without depth. Sessions include long, sustained holds for fascial release, gentle pumping techniques, and moments of deeper sustained pressure — always within your tolerance, never to the point of pain. Collins checks in throughout. And you are always in control.
Most clients feel a profound settling of the nervous system during the session. It is common to fall asleep.
③ After
Recovery continues after you leave the table.
Reach for mineral water after your session — the minerals support your body's recovery process as lymphatic fluid moves and is reabsorbed.
Rest as much as possible and follow any aftercare directions provided by your surgeon.
Avoid alcohol, strenuous activity, and heavy meals for the remainder of the day.
You may notice increased urination, reduced swelling, or a quiet feeling of lightness in the hours that follow. Some clients feel the effects immediately. Others notice the shift gradually over 24–48 hours. Both are normal.
Collins will discuss a session cadence with you based on your procedure and where you are in recovery. Lymphatic drainage is cumulative — consistency produces significantly better outcomes than occasional sessions.
Most post-surgical clients begin with 1–2 sessions per week in the first month, tapering as healing progresses.
If you notice increased pain, fever, or significant changes at the surgical site after your session, contact your surgeon promptly.
